Real estate law is a legal discipline that spans both physical and intangible aspects of property ownership. Practicing real estate law requires you to have soft skills in addition to the legal concepts and terminology you were taught. Below are a few skills to help you build a strategic mindset as a real estate lawyer:

1. Research skills: Legal research involves finding and retrieving adequate information to back a legal position. This requires you to find the right precedent in a case to give your client proper advice. They should know where to find relevant cases or statutory laws regarding property rights and the accruing responsibilities.

2. Communication skills: Documents such as legal contracts, memos, and documents require a solid background in written communication to draft. You will also need good communication skills to build a good rapport with clients and easily explain complex legal concepts to them.

3. Negotiation: Practicing real estate law means you will need to negotiate most of the time. You will have to negotiate the terms of tenancy agreements and mortgage terms. Therefore, you must be skilled in finding amicable resolutions to situations that suit all parties.
