How Family Shelter Services Serves Domestic Violence Survivors

broken image

In addition to providing legal services for real estate professionals in Burr Ridge, Illinois, Codilis and Associates and its employees devote time and financial contributions to local charities. Emphasizing assistance to children and families in marginalized populations, Codilis & Associates donates to the Cara Collective and Family Shelter Services (FSS), one program run by Metropolitan Family Services (MFS).

Family Shelter Services' programs aid children and adult survivors of domestic violence. Its volunteers provide counseling and operate a 24-hour hotline where survivors can ask for advice remotely. They can also visit an emergency shelter if conditions become unsafe at home. Counselors specialized in working with specific patient subgroups teach them to process their feelings healthily and build new lives independently.

To prepare volunteers at its organization and allied ones to work with clients, the FSS hosts a 40-hour training course. It covers facets of domestic violence like causes, effects on the survivor, and legal measures survivors can take to protect themselves. It takes place every month except December and can fill specific continuing education requirements, like the Licensed Social Worker (LSC), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) certifications.
